Program overview
The EMU Department of Civil Engineering is one of the university's oldest departments, founded in 1979 and among the best in the region. The Civil Engineering program is a 4-year full-time undergraduate program (B.Sc.), offered in English and Turkish with fully parallel content.
The program provides comprehensive education in the design, construction and maintenance of infrastructure. Students gain a solid foundation in engineering principles, mathematics and materials science, preparing them for professional work in engineering and technology.
The department also offers master's programs (M.S. in Civil Engineering and in Construction Technology and Management) and a doctoral program (Ph.D.) — education at EMU can be continued up to the highest degree.
About the department
The EMU Department of Civil Engineering was founded in 1979 and is one of the oldest and most respected departments of the university. It ranks among the best departments in the region in education quality and academic reputation.
The undergraduate program aims to produce qualified engineers with knowledge of engineering management, construction engineering, hydraulics and transportation technology. The department offers a full academic path: B.Sc., M.S. (Civil Engineering and Construction Technology and Management) and Ph.D.
Program structure
The program lasts 4 years and consists of 8 semesters. The curriculum is built on a gradual deepening principle:
- First two years — a solid foundation: physics, chemistry, mathematics and English, plus courses in engineering drawing and introduction to civil engineering
- Second year — fundamentals of civil engineering
- Third and fourth years — core disciplines with technical electives in your area of interest
- Second half of the program — courses in engineering economy, construction technology and management, structural design
- Senior year — a design project integrating knowledge from several disciplines
The M.S. program includes coursework of at least 21 credit hours and a master's thesis; the Ph.D. program requires a minimum of 21 credit hours, a qualifying exam and a doctoral dissertation.

Admission
Admission to the Civil Engineering program requires a high school diploma or equivalent with good grades in mathematics and science.
