Program overview

The Law program (LL.B. — Bachelor of Laws) is a 4-year undergraduate program at the EMU Faculty of Law, delivered entirely in English. It offers an international and multicultural learning environment where students from different countries — Europe, the Middle East, Africa, Asia — study together.

The program gives students globally applicable legal vocabulary and makes legal education accessible to learners from around the world. The curriculum is based on universal legal principles and is designed independently of any single national legal system.

The emphasis on comparative law, international law, European Union law and key common law concepts significantly increases the academic adaptability and professional mobility of graduates in the international job market.

About the faculty

The EMU Faculty of Law delivers the LL.B. program in English, bringing together students from different countries and legal systems. The teaching model is not tied to any single national legal system — it is built on universal legal principles, comparative law and international norms.

The program benefits from strong academic cooperation with the University of Bologna — one of the oldest and most prestigious law faculties in Europe. Through this partnership, students become familiar with European legal traditions, receive input from international professors and get early access to global academic and professional networks.

Program structure

The program lasts 4 years and consists of 8 semesters. All courses are taught entirely in English, allowing students to master legally recognized terminology used worldwide. The educational process includes:

  • 115 credits and 40 courses — a comprehensive curriculum
  • Key areas of law — criminal, constitutional, contract, administrative, international law and EU law
  • Intensive training in legal research and legal writing
  • Case analysis, simulations and moot court — practical court hearings to develop advocacy skills
  • A critical-thinking approach supported by digital and traditional research methods
  • Support language programs for students needing additional English

The curriculum is fully aligned with the student exchange program with the University of Bologna's law faculty: students may spend one semester or a full academic year in Bologna with full academic recognition.

What you will study

The curriculum covers the main legal disciplines, including:

  • Constitutional law
  • Contract law
  • Criminal law
  • Tort law
  • Property law
  • Administrative law
  • International law and European Union law

Students develop analytical skills, critical thinking and advocacy skills through lectures, seminars and moot court hearings. The program emphasizes both theoretical foundations and the practical application of law; assessment methods include exams, coursework and presentations.

Partnership with the University of Bologna

One of the main advantages of the program is the academic cooperation with the University of Bologna, one of the oldest and most prestigious law schools in Europe. The partnership includes joint courses, input from foreign professors and participation in international conferences, seminars and academic events.

Thanks to the privileged agreement, LL.B. students may spend one semester or a full academic year at the University of Bologna — with full academic recognition of completed courses. This provides early access to global academic and professional networks and significantly strengthens graduates' positions in the European job market.

Infrastructure

The EMU Faculty of Law offers one of the strongest academic infrastructures for international students:

  • 9 modern lecture halls with capacity from 25 to 390 students, equipped with computers, projectors and display systems
  • A 55 m² computer laboratory with 24/7 technical support
  • Dedicated areas for individual and group work
  • The Özay Oral Library — one of the largest university libraries in the TRNC: more than 160,000 printed books, 30,000+ e-journals, 30,000+ e-books and 50+ international databases
  • The Prof. Dr. Esin Konanç Library — more than 6,431 law books and authoritative legal journals
  • More than 100 student clubs and a multicultural student life

Career prospects

LL.B. graduates enjoy broad professional mobility worldwide thanks to the English-taught curriculum and a comparative legal perspective.

  • Legal professions — lawyer, judge or prosecutor, notary, legal counsel, academic career (depending on country requirements)
  • International organizations — UN, EU institutions, UNDP, UNICEF and others
  • Diplomacy and public service — international relations and public administration
  • Legal departments of transnational corporations
  • Finance, banking, insurance, energy and the commercial sector
  • NGOs and human rights organizations
  • Immigration law, international trade law and arbitration

The program provides a solid academic foundation for master's and doctoral research. Cooperation with leading European universities — especially the University of Bologna — facilitates academic advancement and diploma recognition across Europe.

Admission to the Law (LL.B.) program requires a high school diploma or its equivalent. International students must prove English proficiency with standardized tests such as TOEFL or IELTS.
