Admission to EMU in 2026: the complete guide for students from CIS

Why choose EMU

Eastern Mediterranean University (EMU) is the largest state university in Northern Cyprus, founded in 1979. Today it educates more than 18,000 students from 100+ countries. The university is ranked in the THE World University Rankings and offers English-taught programs in 100+ fields of study.

EMU is especially popular among students from the CIS thanks to a combination of three factors: affordable tuition, European quality education and a comfortable Mediterranean climate. In this article we will walk you through the admission process step by step — from the first call to moving into the dormitory.

Step 4. Application and acceptance letter

You apply to EMU online through the university portal. The process takes 1–2 weeks. Here is what to do:

  1. Fill in the online application form on the EMU website
  2. Upload scanned copies of all documents
  3. Pay the application fee ($50–100)
  4. Wait for the review (7–14 days on average)
  5. Receive the acceptance letter by email

Our agency submits applications on a priority basis through direct communication with the admission office. With our support, the average time to receive an acceptance letter is 5–7 business days.

Step 5. Scholarships and discounts

EMU offers several types of financial support for international students. The programs are regulated by the official EMU Scholarship Regulations:

Academic Scholarship (50% / 25%)

A tuition discount from 25% to 50%, awarded based on the candidate's academic performance. The discount depends on your certificate average, exam results and the chosen program.

Full Scholarship (100%) for the top 1%

For applicants who are in the top 1% of high school graduates in their country. Covers the full tuition fee, accommodation in a double room and three meals a day. Applications are accepted until the end of January (September intake only).

Tuition Fee Waiver — 100% (for the 2 best students from each country)

For applicants with outstanding results in their country's national exams. Only 2 places per country per academic year. Covers the full tuition fee (without accommodation and meals).

Step 6. Student visa and residence permit

Northern Cyprus has a simplified procedure for students. After receiving the acceptance letter, you apply for a student residence permit (ikamet). The process includes:

  • Submitting documents to the migration office
  • A medical check-up (done on site)
  • Paying the fee (≈ $150)
  • Receiving the residence permit card (2–4 weeks)

Our agency supports the whole process: from consultation to receiving the card. We also help with renewing the residence permit for the next year.

Step 7. Housing and flight

EMU offers on-campus dormitories with full board. Accommodation costs $150–300 per month depending on the room type. You can also rent an apartment in Famagusta or Iskele:

  • 1-bedroom apartment: $200–350 per month
  • 2-bedroom apartment: $350–500 per month
  • Shared room: $150–250 per month

We help you find housing before you fly — we will meet you at Ercan airport and check you into the option you choose.

FAQ

The full service package can be discussed at a consultation. It includes: consultation, program selection, document preparation, application, visa support, help with housing and airport pickup.
When is the best time to apply?
For the Fall semester — before June, classes start in September. For the Spring semester — before November, classes start in February. For the All-Inclusive Scholarship — before the end of January. We recommend applying 3–4 months before the semester starts.
